What does it mean to see a face?
This video consists of 12 video-portraits, displayed on a screen. Every person undertakes an attempt at singing and/or miming a 2 minutes audio-fragment taken from the final part of Miserere (selected text consists of only out two words: Miserere Nobis’), written in 1981 by the Polish composer Henryk Górecki (33/37-minutes).
The entire text of Miserere is only comprised of five words: “Domine Deus Noster,” (Lord our God) which is repeated for the first 10 sections of the piece, followed by a final section with the text “Miserere nobis” (Lord have mercy on us).
Miserere demands concentration and thoughtful consideration, and is a heartfelt plea for peace and understanding from a composer who believes in the values of personal individuality and compassionate responsibility.
